Beyoncé - "Self-Titled"

“Self-Titled” is the five-part documentary Beyoncé began releasing the December midnight the album it’s named for arrived - no single, no announcement, no press run, just seventeen videos and the film of how they were made. The drop turned “visual album” into a genre.

Across chapters titled “The Visual Album,” “Imperfection,” “Run ’N Gun,” “Liberation,” and “Honesty,” it leaves the finished record behind for the rooms that built it: late studio sessions, rehearsal floors, the edit bay, home-video archives, and unguarded interviews with Beyoncé talking through fear, control, and the nerve it takes to release your most personal work without asking anyone’s permission.
