Matthew C. Levy is a New York film editor working where film meets generative production.

On Heidi Ewing’s narrative feature The Travel Writer, he delivered generative VFX and temp ADR in the actors’ cloned voices, in English and Italian. He built Sproket and Piper, two AI assistant editors that logged the dailies and organized the sound library on a feature film, and designed and shipped Fetch, a macOS media tool for film professionals.

He edited the first two episodes of Zachary Heinzerling’s Stolen Youth: Inside the Cult at Sarah Lawrence for Hulu, nominated for an Independent Spirit Award and a Cinema Eye Honors award, and cut the campaign trailer for RaMell Ross’s Oscar-nominated Hale County This Morning, This Evening.

Behind the camera, he has shot and edited for director Josephine Decker, on a film for the Museum of the City of New York and on her untitled Texas project, produced by Michael Gottwald at Department of Motion Pictures.

Previous credits include Sam Guest and Julia Baylis’s Wiggle Room, a Sundance Special Jury Award winner acquired by Searchlight; Beyoncé’s self-titled documentary for Parkwood; Megan Thee Stallion’s “Captain Hook”; and Nas’s “No Bad Energy”, which he conceived, directed and cut.
